V.L. Furgerson is a debut dark fantasy and Own Voices author. She did not set out to write a novel. In 2022 she lost her family, and A Blood Price began as somewhere to put a grief that had nowhere else to go.
What came out was a story about a woman whose magic runs on the worst thing that ever happened to her, and about the strangers who teach her that surviving and living are not the same thing.
She writes complicated women: the ones who drink too much, who make the wrong call, who are prickly in the ways real people are prickly. Not lovable in spite of it. Lovable because of it.
She writes in the Pacific Northwest, rain on the windows and cedar out the back, under the close supervision of her intern, a cat named Prosciutto, who has never once approved a chapter without sitting on it first.
